New Phone App Warns of Angry Messages
A new app coming for Android phones gives users fair warning about the tone of messages they are about to read, giving them, the AFP Newswire via the Mother Nature Network, reports, the ability to gird themselves before jumping in. Mail Online says that the app will help reduce stress by letting users arrange their messages by their emotional content so that they can read those that are angry or nasty when they are more fully ready and able to deal with them.
Computer scientists working at the University of Portsmouth, the AFP says, have integrated text recognition software with algorithms that are able to pick out words or phrases commonly used when people are angry, upset or are just being mean. The result was then programmed into a phone application for use by anyone with an Android enabled Smart phone. The app, called “Stress@Work” is expected to be posted for downloading by the end of the month.
Mail Online explains that for users, the app is simple; those messages that have an ugly tone are highlighted in red, those that are sweet and happy are shown in green, while those that are mostly innocuous are shown in blue.
The idea its makers told the AFP, is to give people some warning before reading a message. Quite often, those that receive angry, insulting or demeaning messages are shocked which causes the blood pressure to lower at first, then to rise when anger creeps in; such swings in blood pressure in combination with other physical reactions causes a lot of wear and tear on the body in the form of stress, which can weaken the immune system and over time lead to cardiovascular disease or even strokes. To reduce the impact of such messages, the team developed the color coded system to give message recipients time to comport themselves before reading a message that might upset them. That lead time they say, allows the body to get ready and thus the amount of stress is reduced.
Mail Online says the new app could likely help people who read less than happy message while at work. Knowing the tone will be angry lets employees better handle the stress that results and then to respond in a more professional manner.
The researchers also told the AFP that they are still hammering out the details of how to get the app to learn more as it goes by allowing users to grade the color coding. Over time, the system should get better and better, allowing users to learn to trust that the warnings it issues are correct.…
Panasonic RP-HT21 Lightweight Headphones with XBS Port Review:
As a freelance writer I am often listening to music while writing on various topics of interest. Also as an avid lover of music I find that it is hard to find good headphones these days at an inexpensive price. I love listening to music when I write and often when I am doing other things on the Internet but do not want to disturb my family. I have purchased many headphones over the years without finding a cheap pair of high quality. Recently I purchased Panasonic RP-HT21 Lightweight Headphones with the XBS port and think I found what I was looking for. There are so many headphones out there on the market so it might be hard to find a good quality pair without spending too much money. If you are someone looking for a great pair of headphones at an unbeatable price then you should check out my review of the Panasonic RP-HT21 Lightweight Headphones with the XBS port.
Over the years I have spent around 200 dollars trying to find a great pair of headphones and it has never worked out very well. In this economy it is especially important to be very cautious about how much money you spend especially on items like headphones and accessories. I wanted a good quality pair of headphones that were inexpensive and easy to replace if needed so I began my quest to find the perfect pair. I found the Panasonic RP-HT21 Lightweight Headphones with the XBS port at Amazon and it was like a match made in heaven. These headphones are about 5 dollars and are some of the best headphones I think I have ever had. The XBS port is designed to give you an increased bass response and it works like a charm. I enjoy listening to music on a daily basis and was looking for a pair of headphones that would last through the heavy rock music I listen to. Typically, a pair of headphones would quit on me within a year and the usual cause was a blown speaker or the wiring would become very weak at the point where the speaker and wires meet. So I was naturally curious when I saw these online for about 5 dollars and figured I do not have anything to lose by trying them out.
Panasonic is a very good brand and I have come to enjoy their various products over the years. When I think of Panasonic I think of quality and reliability while maintaining a reasonable price but never have I seen five dollar headphones from them before. So I bought me a pair through Amazon and when I got them I was amazed. The headphones’ are very comfortable and are adjustable to fit your head no matter what size your head might be. I have had experiences with headphones where they were heavy and felt like they were weighing my ear down but these are not like …
The Turtle Tales Musical Mobile: Review
My nephew was newly brought into this world and I was so excited about buying him something that he could find interest in as a newborn. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to buy him until my husband told me that I should consider buying him a mobile. I didn’t think anything of it because I was more interested in buying something more flashy. But once I thought it over I decided to check out a few mobiles at Walmart.
I shopped around for a couple of days and ran across the Turtle Tales Musical Mobile for $20. I was on a budget so I thought this would be the perfect gift. The reason why I decided upon the Turtle Musical Mobile was because of the price and the simplicity of it. I knew that as a newborn my nephew wasn’t going to be able to do much so this was going to be perfect.
Once I purchased the Turtle Tales Musical Mobile I took it over to my sisters house so she could assemble it and put it on my nephews baby crib. She adored the crisp strips and and polka dot material it came with. The Turtle Tales Musical Mobile also came with playful turtles that danced around the mobile once it was turned on.
Now even though the Turtle Tales Musical Mobile was cheap and entertaining it wasn’t a great value for the price. I guess when people say you get what you pay for , that’s exactly what they mean. The Turtle Musical Mobile wasn’t put together all that well. The one thing I noticed about the Turtle Tales Musical mobile was that the string the turtles hung on was attached by the neck and not the toy itself. So it came off a bit tacky and bootleg. I know this shouldn’t have been a big deal but when I first seen the Turtle Tales Musical Mobile on the Internet, I noticed that the turtles hung from the shell and not the turtle itself. So I felt as if I had been lied to. I also was a bit disappointed by the fact that when we hung the Turtle Tales Musical Mobile up, we got 1 brown turtle and 3 blue turtles. I was expecting to have all blue turtles because of the color scheme my sister was going with.
Another thing I disliked about the Turtle Tales Musical Mobile was that the attachment piece didn’t snap on to the baby bed all that well. It refused to stand up in a straight position. I found this to be unsafe because to me, it looked as if it wanted to fall right on top of my nephew.
The Turtle Tales Musical Mobile also had problems rotating fully. There were times where it would get stuck in the middle of rotation. My sister would have to push it every once in a while to get it to continue rotation.

How to Send Ringtones to Your Cell Phone
This guide will show you how to make ring tones from music on your computer and send it to your cell phone for free. Please note, in order to do this you will need to download software called ToneThis and you will need a music player (such as windows media player, winamp, itunes, etc.). Download the free software. Before downloading, be sure to click on supported phones to make sure this software is compatible with your cellphone. Once you download the software, install it onto your computer. Now that you have the software needed to send the ring tone to your phone, it is time for you to pick the song you wish to send. Open up your music player (i.e., windows media player, etc.) and listen to the song you want to make a ring tone. While you’re listening to the song, write down on a piece of paper what part of the song you would like to use as the ring tone. You will need a starting point and ending point for the song (ex: start at 01:23, end at 01:33). Once you have written down the portion of the song you wish to use as a ring tone, it is time to install the ToneThis software.
When you run the software for the first time, it will ask for a serial number for pro edition. Ignore this. Click on the button underneath that says continue with free edition. Create a profile name for your phone, then enter your email address. Then enter your mobile phone information, country, carrier, manufacturer, handset, and cell phone number (ex., United States, Verizon, LG, VX8500). You will have to refer to the paperwork you received with your phone or go to your service provider to obtain the manufacturer and handset information. After entering your information press ok. You can close out the hints and tips screen that first appears, because I’m telling you how to use the program, or you can read it for more information.
You’ll notice at the top that you can send ring tones, wallpapers, videos, and games all to your phone. In this tutorial, however, I’m only covering ring tones. Click the browse button on the left hand side and locate the music file (song) you wish to make a ring tone out of. Tone this will process the file (convert it). Once it has finished you will see the song waveform in the middle of your screen. Below this you will see play and stop options, and song length information. Now it is time to pull out the piece of paper you wrote your song information on (the start time and end time of your ring tone). When you double click in the middle of the screen on the waveform you will notice a number shows. This number indicates where you are in the song. Find the starting point you wish to use (from my previous example above, start …
Reasons for Having a Pre Paid Mobile Phone
There are many reasons why some people choose a pre paid mobile phone rather than having a bill every month. Pre paid phones are especially great for children, as you don’t need to be a certain age to get one and you cant spend more money than you have topped up with, so no massive bills for mum and dad.
Pre paid mobile phones are also great for people who do not use their mobile much, if you don’t make many calls then you may not benefit from a contract and may in fact save money by going pre paid. Many of today’s pre paid plans even come with free calls and text messages, just like a pay monthly plan.
With a pre paid phone you do not need to worry about spending more than you can afford. You choose how much and how often to top up your phone and that is all you can spend, because you don’t receive a bill at the end of the month there are no nasty surprises and you can keep track of your spending easily.
Another reason many people choose a pre paid phone is that you are not tied into a long contract with a particular provider. If you come across a better deal you are free to switch providers, although you will need to purchase a new sim card and possibly get your phone unblocked so it will accept it. You can also change your handset as often as you like, something that is difficult and costly to do if you are on a contract.
There are of course drawbacks to having a pre paid phone, if you do make a lot of calls you may be better off financially with a contract phone as many of these come with free minutes and texts for a set price a month. If having the newest most up to date phone is important to you this could be costly if you are buying the handset on a pre paid tariff. Also if your handset is lost or stolen you will likely loose any credit on it and it could be difficult to get your original phone number back to use on a new handset, if however you have a contract phone your provider simply cancels your sim card and issues a new one.
Although there are drawbacks to having a pre paid mobile phone, they are very well suited to a lot of people. Pre paid phones are great for children and people who do not use their phone much as you are not paying for minutes you are not going to use. Many people also use their mobile phone simply for incoming calls, this is another great benefit of pre paid phones as with many tariffs there is no minimum top up so you can top up your phone once and then anyone can get you wherever you are.…
The Automobile is Going Digital
With the growing need for cars to become more environmentally friendly, and safer to drive the need for more computer control has become evident, and therefore the trend has given way to a more and more electronic car over the years.
I personally don’t know if this is a good thing, or a bad thing, the more gadgets you add to your car, the more likely it’s going to break down, but by the same token, along with this trend cars have also gotten a lot more comfortable to be in.
With the addition of LCD TV’S, and high end stereo equipment right from the factory, it’s more like being at home while your driving your car, you can even hook up you game console to the TV in your car, and the rear view back up camera had defiantly helped put with the safety side of things.
The computerized engine management systems have mad it possible to get more power, and reliability out of your engine, without making a bunch of non-factory modifications to it and killing your warranty, and they are doing more with it all of the time.
The safety features have multiplied over the years due to the electronic systems, with ideas like traction control being implemented, and roll control to help keep you car on all four wheel even through the worst events, it has been changing the face of the automotive world.
Most of the safety stuff you’d never see or feel, but the traction control is one thing that you can test out, try turning it off on a snow covered road, and you’ll learn really quickly what it’s all about, it it truly one of the bast tings that the digital age has done for cars.
With GPS becoming more popular all of the time most car are available with it these days, it to has more then one purpose, consider GM’s onstar technology, they can locate you after you car has been in an accident, not to mention after it has been stolen.
With the addition of ABS brake systems, and air hags cars have become a lot more safe to be in, and they are constantly working to make these features better, over time the computer age has done a lot for car, and most likely will continue to do so.
As Americans we love our cars, and most of us love all of the cool electronic gadgets the the digital age has given to them, but all of this does come at a price, and that price is a higher price tag, along with the high likelihood that one, or another of these systems will break at some point in time.
Believe me I love the gadgets as much as the next guy, but I’m prepared for them to make my car need a repair here and there, I know that it will happen at some point during the life of my car, the …
Cell Phones, Pre-teens, and the Horrible Parent
We’ve all seen it before. A young girl, 8 or 9 years old, wanders around our place of employment or a store we frequent. There’s no sign of an adult accompanying her, but thankfully she has the almighty her cell phone in hand.
Unfortunately for this little girl and others like her, she’s being neglected by her parent. If someone wants to abduct your daughter, chances are the first thing they’re going to do is slap that phone right out of her hand. The majority of children under the age of 13 have no need for a cell phone, because they shouldn’t be in a situation where they’re left to wander around without adult supervision for extended periods of time.
These are, of course, only my personal opinions on the subject. Letting your child have a cell phone isn’t always a bad idea, but it’s up to the parents to not let it change how they care for their child. A good rule of thumb is that if your child’s baby sitter can fit in their pocket, they need a new one.…

Ubuntu Announces Plans for a Mobile Operating System
In collaboration with Intel, Ubuntu plans to develop a mobile version of its popular operating system. Although all details are sketchy at this point, and in fact plans are currently being worked out at the Ubuntu developer’s summit, it appears that Intel may be designing a mobile internet device, using Nokia wireless technology, and running this new operating system. Little is known, or for that matter decided, at this point as to the details of this new operating system, specifically what devices it will be compatible with, but it appears it will bring the famous GNOME desktop environment to handheld computers. To the delight of Linux enthusiasts everywhere, Open Source software may finally be finding its way into the world of mobile computing.
In case you haven’t heard of it, Ubuntu is a popular distribution of the Linux operating system. It is designed with usability in mind, and is aimed at average users rather than geeks, who make up the vast majority of Linux users. As is the case with all versions of Linux, Ubuntu is Open Source, meaning that it is a collaborative effort, and that it is entirely available free of charge. This means that unlike commercial software, which makes up the vast majority of what we use, individual users are free to mess with the source code, and make any modifications they see fit. Through internet forums, these philanthropic nerds can coordinate their efforts and create new and improved versions of software which, in general, tend to be far better written and far less buggy than their commercial counterparts. And, for the end user, they are entirely free. In fact, Ubuntu takes this concept so seriously that it is willing to ship free CDs of its operating system to anyone who is interested. If you are interested, check out www.ubuntulinux.com.
This Mobile Ubuntu will be Open Source’s first foray into the world of mobile technology, a world which, at this point, is small and dominated by few companies. The new Ubuntu Mobile will really be up against Windows Mobile, which is currently the only major advanced mobile operating system on the market. Ubuntu will likely prove to be a major competitor, fueled by the simplicity of mobile devices, a factor which will further eliminate the technical know-how needed to run the operating system. Further spurred by the release of Ubuntu-specific mobile devices, the release of this new operating system will likely be quite successful.
Choosing a Cell Phone: Things to Consider Before Purchasing
Choosing a cell phone can be hard. After all, there’s so many different models, with so many different features. It can be really easy to just grab the latest and greatest phone and call it good, but that phone might not be what you need. Different people use different phones for different reasons. Some people might text a lot, while others need a phone capable of scheduling their appointments. Some people might only use them to talk. The phone that’s right for you will depend greatly on your individual needs.
One of the biggest factors that is going to influence a person’s choice in cell phones is the price. Not everyone can afford to drop a lot of cash on a phone. Even the phone with less fireworks and glitter can be quite expensive. Before buying a cell phone, make sure you’ve got your budget figured out.
Many cell phones are capable of taking photos, but this might not be a feature you need. Sometimes it can be hard to find a phone without a camera! If you’re not planning to use your phone’s camera often, don’t worry about how many megapixels it is if it comes with one. If you do plan to use the camera on the phone, try to find one that takes decent photos, ideally, three megapixels. If possible, test a camera on a phone out prior to purchasing it.
If you don’t plan to use your phone for texting, you won’t need a QWERTY keyboard. A simple twelve-key phone will most likely be more than enough. If you plan on texting a lot, you may want to find a phone with a QWERTY keyboard, or a touch screen to make texting easier.
If you use your phone to schedule appointments and keep track of tasks, make sure that the phone you’re looking at has an easy to use calendar program. If you stop by a cell phone shop, you can often test out the programs on the demo phones. If you use the calendar a lot, make sure that the program isn’t frustrating, confusing or difficult to use. The last thing you need when scheduling an appointment is an issue with your phone.
Although many phones are capable of connecting to the internet, some are much better at displaying it than others. If you plan to use your phone to access the internet, make sure the internet browser is easy to use and easy to view. Many phones can access the internet, but display it strangely. You can always ask to test a phone’s internet out before purchasing.
Many people connect to social networks through their phone. For those that do this often, having a phone that has applications specific to social networks such as facebook, myspace or twitter can make it much easier to post status updates and upload photos.
